Things to Consider Before Choosing Your Wedding Date

Choosing the day that you are going to get married is a big decision.  In some cases it may actually boil down to the availability of your dream venue, or perhaps a very special date to the both of you or the family.  If the decision is not that cut and dry however, then there are some key factors to consider when choosing the ideal day to say I do!

Season

Some couples may be set on a picturesque fall wedding while others may want a warm beach affair.  Depending on the desired weather which will create your ambiance and factor in on your outfits, make up, hair and photography your date could be much earlier or later than you may originally have planned for.  If there aren’t any additional factors forcing a date then take the time to choose your ideal season-you’ve waited a long time for this special day and it should be perfect!

Budget

A large factor to consider when picking your wedding date is the budget.  Certain times of year like the Spring and Summer can mean premium pricing on your venue or other services like a photographer or videographer.  If you are dealing with a tighter budget then choosing a date during the off season may be easier on the wallet and allow you to do a lot more with your available funds.

Holidays

While sharing your special day on a holiday can seem like a great way to make it even more special, it may actually work against you.  If you’re choosing New Years eve for example, you’re going to be paying a premium fee for your venue and many of your service providers.  You may also have to pre plan much earlier and book your venue up to a year or longer than if you chose another less celebrated day.  When it comes to your guest list also keep in mind that friends and family may have alternative plans in place making the wedding difficult to attend or even more expensive if they are travelling from out of town.

Family

While it is always hopeful that everyone in the family is always in good health, the fact is that there are situations where certain family members may not be at 100%. If you’re dealing with a sick family member and really would like them to attend then you may have to shift your date to something closer or further away then what you had originally intended.

Availability

A huge factor to consider when choosing your date is who you absolutely need to make your wedding dream a reality and who you may be able to replace-when it comes to wedding services.  If you have a dream planner that is not available then you may want to find a date that works better.  If you don’t really mind going with another cake decorator then perhaps they won’t factor in on your chosen date.  Planning ahead will help to ensure that you don’t run into too much of an issue with booking availability but it is helpful to have a clear idea in your mind of deal breakers before setting out to sign any contracts.
