Dressing Your Bridesmaids On a Budget

Bridesmaids have a lot to do.  They’re in charge of the wedding shower, they have to throw a memorable bachelorette and then there is the day of the wedding and making sure that the bride is as happy and calm as can be!

In many cases, the bridesmaids also have to purchase their own bridesmaid dresses and this can mean something for the morning and something different for the reception.  What this all boils down to is a lot of spending in a short period of time!

The good news is that there are cost effective ways of ensuring that your bridesmaids look stunning without breaking their banks.  Here are a few quick tips on finding bridesmaids’ dresses on a budget.

Establish a budget

Sure, it sounds obvious but when you don’t have a solid budget set in place it becomes very easy to waver when you see something that you ‘just have to have’!  If you are paying for the dresses yourself, then this becomes even more critical.  If you’re going to be asking your bridesmaids to cover the cost it is important for them to also have a good idea of what they’ll be spending on the outfit.

Choose Your Style

Once you’ve got an idea on the costs, take the time to figure out your style.  Are you going to go with all of the same dresses or outfits in the same colour?  Are you opting for something different for each bridesmaid or perhaps the same dress or outfit in different colours?  Are your ladies going to be wearing traditional South Asian suits, sarees with a more modern blouse design or are you going Westernized with dresses?  All of these choices will help put a plan in place and help ensure that you’re going to be able to stay on budget.

Perhaps as important as setting the budget is the willingness to be flexible.  If your dream outfits are not going to be feasible then it’s important to look at plan B or even C.   While you don’t want to compromise too much, it is important to have some wiggle room when you’re working within a budget.

Do Your Research

It can take some time but it’ll be worth it at the end.  Researching deals, sales and costs of having your outfits made becomes a whole lot easier when you have budget, design and colour in mind.  With endless options at your fingertips, you can set up alerts for sales at stores that carry what you’re looking for.  You can also send out multiple requests for quotes and also easily call ahead to order in what you’re looking for if there are multiple locations of a store involved.  Split the work with your bridesmaids as well to get them involved in the process.

Remember, dressing your bridesmaids on a budget does not mean you have to forego style, fashion or quality.  It just means that you’ll be doing a little more work to stay within what is comfortable for everyone to spend.
